Welcome!

We all get stuck at times. It doesn't make us bad or weak. It makes us human, and often more interesting. Many of us could also use support along the way, especially when we never learned to be kind to ourselves, and when we forget our common humanity. It takes courage to reach out for help and explore what's keeping you stuck - in pain, in heartache, in depression, in behaviors, in suffering. Understanding that change means stepping into the unknown, I will approach our work together with deep respect for your interest in this process.

I am available for Individual Therapy. I work with many flavors of suffering, integrating different tools and philosophies, when appropriate. I have particular interests in chronic pain/health conditions, and struggles with food and body image.

    Chronic Pain/Health Conditions

As someone who lived with chronic pain for many years, I have a deep understanding of the toll it can take on one's life. It can cause or exacerbate anxiety and/or depression, strain relationships, inhibit social interactions, create fears about moving the body in certain ways, and lead to feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. While I can't guarantee you will never experience pain again (since pain is part of the human condition), I am confident you can be free from chronic pain. I have found many useful strategies for working with pain, which can significantly reduce (and eliminate) both the pain and the negative impact on your life. I primarily draw on Dr. John Sarno's understanding of pain, and other experts in the field such as Dr. Howard Schubiner, Alan Gordon, LCSW, and Nicole Sachs, LCSW, who have expanded upon his work.

              Food and Body Image

Many people have some kind of disordered relationship to food and body. If you are someone who struggles in these areas, it's important for you to know that it's not your fault. Diet Culture, which also includes much of the current Wellness Industry, asserts it knows what is best for your body - from what, when, and how much to eat, to how you should move your body. It disconnects you from your own inner knowing, your own internal guide which knows what feels best to your body. I will help you explore beliefs, feelings, and behaviors you have around food and your body that may be influencing, or worse yet, ruling your life. Freedom with food and acceptance of your body is possible. I am aligned with Intuitive Eating and HAES (Health at Every Size) paradigms.
